In an interview with The Sun, soap star Zoe opened up about how being married to fellow co-star Jeff, who plays bad boy Cain Dingle, is a blessing in disguise.
She said: “Tough storylines can be heavy going. Rhona [Goskirk], my character on Emmerdale, has been through a lot, including rape and a hysterectomy.
“But when we cover difficult subjects, there’s a really good rapport between the actors and crew as soon as the camera stops rolling.”

She continued: “It’s important to have a laugh inbetween takes, so upsetting stories don’t get you down too much. Working on the same show as Jeff also helps because, if one of us is having a bad day, then the other will completely understand.”
The Essex-born actress – who has Violet, 14, and Stan, 10, with Jeff – also insisted that they never take their jobs for granted.
She said Jeff “never gets complacent” as they have “so many talented actor friends who aren’t working as much as they should”.
Zoe admitted it’s a “stark reminder of how lucky we are”.
She added that she loves being on a soap because “you never know what your character is going to be getting themselves into further down the line, so it’s exciting”.
Although the pair don’t have many scenes together, they spend a lot of time off-screen working on their allotment.

The home-grown produce helps Jeff manage his Crohn’s disease, and Zoe said they often take homemade soup in for their lunch on set.
Although Zoe and Jeff now work together on the ITV soap, they actually met back when they were at college.
The couple married in 2003 and have worked together on and off ever since Zoe first played Rhona for two brief stints in 2001 and 2002.
She reprised her role in 2010.
