Ed Sheeran’s fans rushed to congratulate him as he announced his engagement to his high-school crush on Instagram.
The Shape of You crooner has something to celebrate other than another number one hit after popping the question to Cherry Seaborn, a former classmate he admitted he always fancied at school.
Taking to his Instagram account Ed told fans: “Got myself a fiance just before new year. We are very happy and in love and our cats are chuffed too.
Ed and Cherry met at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, where they were classmates.
After they finished their education Cherry, a talented hockey-player, moved to North Carolina, leaving guitar-strumming Ed to makes hits in his bedroom.

Fans took to Twitter and Instagram to offer their congrats, with some even admitting they were ‘jealous’ of Cherry.
One said: “Ed Sheeran is engaged! Congrats! I’m just gonna sit over here and pretend I’m not jealous at all…not even a little bit.”
Some reckon it will mean his next album will be the best material he’s produced yet.
One said: “I am already crying just thinking about it.”
While another said: “His next album is about to be the most heartfelt and beautifully written yet. The guy expresses feelings through lyrics like no other.”
Ed hasn’t gone into any details about when the couple will tie the knot, but it’s sure to be a star-studded ceremony.

Ed’s famous friends include the likes of Friends actress Courtney Cox and fellow singer Taylor Swift, while he’s also collaborated with Beyonce and Eminem in recent months.
