If you were locked in a cellar for a long period of time and heard another voice that was not your captor’s, would you shout out for help?
That was the question on Coronation Street’s viewers’ lips last night when the hostage scene between evil Pat Phelan (played by Connor McIntyre) and his hostage Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth) was interrupted by Pat’s wife Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) unexpectedly arriving at the property.
As she made her way inside, she discovered her hubby in the cellar acting very shifty indeed.
But unbeknownst to her, Andy was hidden away in the dark behind him!

Except Andy remained silent (although the way Phelan looked at him would probably have kept us schtum as well!)
Viewers were up in arms that Andy didn’t take his chance to escape and put an end to his abduction, and took to social media to let their feelings be known…
Flat out ridiculous that Andy wouldn't shout for help when he heard Eileen. This is rubbish, Corrie. #coronationstreet

@itvcorrie why did Andy not call out to Eileen? Getting to be the worst storyline ever in #CoronationStreet

Has he chained Andy's tongue up?! 🙄🙄 #corrie

But others remained on Andy’s side with some reckoning that he was actually playing his own game…
Andy is playing a VERY clever game. Tapping into Pheelans conscience & letting him have the control, building up trust #Corrie

I think if Andy did call out Eileen would believe Phelan if he said she was hearing things. She's so eager to keep him on side #Corrie

We reckon there’s a lot more to come with this Andy and Pat storyline, with Corrie star Sue Cleaver revealing to Digital Spy: “We all want to know when and if Phelan is going to be found out.
“We film about eight weeks ahead and at the moment, he is still up to no good.
“He is getting more and more desperate, though, as the net is closing in a bit and he has made a couple of mistakes, which is not like him…”
We just hope Andy makes it out alive!

So now Corrie fans can get double helpings of their favourite soap on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays every week.
