It’s confirmed, Shirley Carter is one of the most popular characters in EastEnders!
Viewers were compelled to share their love for her during last night’s episode (Thursday 8 March) when several of her one-liners had them doubled-over in laughter.
The Carter matriarch, played by Linda Henry, was certainly on top form as she threatened to taser gangster Aidan Maguire.

In an hilarious scene with Mick, the pair discussed his impending showdown with Aidan – when Shirley produced a taser…
“Leave off,” exclaimed Mick. “What are you doing with a taser?”
“It’s the best I could get at short notice,” she replied, as if that explained everything.
Asked what she thought was going to happen at The Queen Vic, Shirley stated: “War.”
As Mick told her to “put it away”, fans stopped laughing long enough to tweet their reactions.

One male fan said: “People always go on about Ian and Phil as icons of #EastEnders but Shirley Carter is honestly the unsung hero of Albert Square.”
As if that wasn’t enough, the Walford “badass” also stormed over to Phil’s to give him a piece of her mind.

Some of Shirley’s most significant storylines have included her toxic relationship with alcoholic Phil Mitchell and the death of her best friend Heather.
When she realised that Ben killed Heather, she tried to drown him in the bath! And she did the same to her evil son Dean after he raped Linda and tried to rape Roxy.
We’re glad she’s still got her sense of humour after all that drama!
