Coronation Street’s Steve McDonald is universally adored. What’s not to love about that goony, gurning face of his?!
But things could be about to change for his popularity, as the soap has teased a storyline that is set to divide his fans.
Even actor Simon Gregson, who plays him, reckons it could upset the apple cart.
He has teased some fun scenes – following a difficult year for his character – but warns they won’t please everyone.
“What’s coming up for Steve is interesting, he’s going to make some strange decisions,” Simon told Inside Soap magazine.
“I think the audience will be very much split over the situation he finds himself in.
“But he’s going to have quite a lot of fun as well, and I’m very much looking forward to filming that.
“I’m getting to act with some really good people so it’s been a joy to come into work.”
Honestly, we are struggling to think of something that Steve could do – which he hasn’t already – which could finally upset fans.
This is the guy who got together with Leanne so soon after Michelle lost their baby, so he could play happy families with his baby Oliver.
Oh, and he cheated on Michelle with Becky.
Oh, yes, and he also cheated on Karen with Tracy…
And STILL we love him.
So what could it be? We think it could have something to do with mum, Liz.
In fact, we are calling this now – he is going to have an affair with Moira.
THAT would divide viewers as Moira is a cow to Liz.
But, doubtless, it’d bring Steve that pleasure he refers to, as well.
Bring it – this pair would be classic Corrie comedy, we reckon.
