Shayne Ward might have stolen Monday night’s show with his heart-breaking scenes as tragic Aidan Connor, but tonight was all about Catherine Tyldesley whose performance as Eva Price had us sobbing into our tissues until they were just soggy stringy things.
Tonight’s devastating episode of the ITV soap saw Johnny Connor find his son’s body and the news spread around the cobbles that Aidan had killed himself.
Eva was back in Weatherfield after Aidan hadn’t answered her calls and – believing he wanted them to get back together after having worked out the truth about baby Susie – wanted to talk to him.

But she was tragically too late.
Here are the five times that she hit us right in the feels.
When she was looking at her engagement ring
Devastatingly Eva thought that Aidan had visited her at the cottage because he wanted to get back together with her, not because he was saying goodbye to her.
It was made even sadder because we knew that as she looked lovingly at the engagement ring Aidan had left at the cottage, he was already dead.
When Shona broke the news to her that Aidan was dead
Eva struggled to understand what Shona was telling her at first, even laughing and telling her to behave because she was with him the night before.
As the enormity of what Aidan had done eventually sunk in, Eva just crumbled. And so did we.
When she told the hair extension story to Shona
Poor Eva was half-laughing as she remembered a time when she told Aidan to dress smart and he rocked up wearing a pair of trunks and one of her hair extensions.
But then she got so angry as she wondered how he could go from that to killing himself and we just wanted to give her a huge hug.
When she blamed herself
Sobbing, she slipped up and told Toyah that Aidan had ‘worked it out about the baby’ and she thought he wanted to get back together.
When a confused Shona asked what she meant and bet her she’d done worse, a distressed Eva replied: “No, no I don’t think so.”
When she realised his visit was to say goodbye

Eva remembered that Aidan told her she was better off without him but then confessed she’d blocked it out after she found the ring. She broke down in tears when she realised he has actually saying goodbye.
As the realisation struck her and she berated herself for being too stupid to understand at the time, our hearts went out to her again.
