Former EastEnders actor Paul Nicholls plummets into Thai waterfall leaving him with broken leg and shattered kneecap

He was trapped alone for three days

Ex-EastEnders star Paul Nicholls has been admitted to hospital after falling from a waterfall in Thailand spending three days trapped alone.

The actor, 38, was found with a broken right leg, and his kneecap ripped off and was semi-conscious due to contracting a bug as well as hypothermia.

Paul had rented a motorbike to go exploring on the island of Koh Samui and went to Khun Si Falls where he is thought to have taken a selfie and lost his footing.

News footage has emerged with Paul crying out in pain before the Thai medical service took him to safety.

He was found after three days without food or water when a villager spotted his abandoned motorbike that Paul had used to travel around.

Police were alerted as soon as it was found and they launched a huge search knowing that a Brit had gone missing.

The rescue teams spent hours searching in the jungle before finding him and Paul was unable to climb out of the water because of his leg.

Paul has since stated that he is “lucky to be alive”.

He added: “I had a phone with me but I fell from such a height into the water it was unretrievable.

“It took such a long time to find me. It’s an understatement to say it wasn’t a great situation. It wasn’t that I was lost.

“The problem was I couldn’t move to get out of there.

“I’ve got a broken leg and I’m missing a kneecap. It needs complete reconstruction.”

According to the Mail Online, his surgery will cost £90,000 in Koh Samui, but the British Embassy is currently planning on flying him to the mainland to decide whether he needs surgery immediately or could perhaps fly home to the UK instead.

Paul was on holiday in Thailand enjoying some downtime in between filming commitments.

He shot to fame on EastEnders where he played schizophrenic character Joe Wicks.

The Bolton-born actor went on to star in shows such as Law and Order: UK, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Ackley Bridge and Holby City.

Let’s hope he makes a swift recovery.
