As fans know only too well, soaps are pretty moral and crimes can never go unpunished – well, rarely, and not forever.
So when Moira was revealed as Emma Barton’s killer tonight, we feared for the future of her character in the village.
But actress Natal J Robb has allayed our fears, revealing that we will not be saying goodbye to the Emmerdale favourite for a good while yet.
“They told me that wasn’t the case. If it happened, it is in the lap of the gods and there is nothing I can do,” she told Digital Spy.
“I have just signed for another year, so you have another year of me yet!
“Robert Sugden has murdered, but he is still here. I was quite grateful to be involved with it, to be honest.
“When they described it to me, it hadn’t been written at that point. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and curve balls. It was nice to be part of that.”
Phew, what a relief! Mind you, as Emma goaded Moira into killing her – like, properly goaded her – surely there are some grounds for letting her off. (In viewers’s minds, at least.
A crime of provocation… it could catch on!
Natalie continued: “Emma wanted Moira to do this from the off.
“Moira was not being calculative about it. She didn’t go to murder Emma, she wanted to bring her down.
“But Emma pushed the wrong buttons – don’t talk about the kids in the wrong way! Don’t push Moira when she’s angry!”
Emma poked Moira about daughter Holly, desperate for her love rival to push her so she wouldn’t be forced to take her own life.
“All your kids are failures. Holly… the druggie, someone else you ignored. It was easier to pretend it wasn’t happening.
“Imagine if you’d paid attention and noticed there was something wrong, If you’d cared enough she’d still be alive now.
“You could have saved her but you left her to die all alone.
“You knew that you killed her, you might as well have injected the heroine yourself.”
And with that Moira reached out and pushed Emma, and she was a goner!
