Gary Barlow slams rumours that Five To Five are backing singers

Five To Five will indeed shine on stage

It might have been called Let It Shine, but some viewers have slammed Gary Barlow’s talent show for being more than a little shady.

Producers are being accused of double-crossing the public after people assumed the winners would be given starring roles in the new musical.

In fact, it sounds like anyone wanting to see the winners doing some actual acting might have to have a little patience.

Now pop legend and national sweetheart Gary Barlow has stood up to defend his talent show against rumours that the winners are only going to be bit-part characters in his musical The Band.

Fans of the show were not happy when it came out that Five to Five, who won supposedly starring roles in the upcoming musical, weren’t even going to get any speaking lines in the performance!

Instead, the play is about a group of fan-girls, played by professional performers who took part in secret auditions far away from the BBC’s cameras.

So are the Five to Five boys going to be relegated to the sidelines? One fan managed to get a reply out of Gary on Twitter.

He said the accusations are “absolute rubbish”. Take that. Mind you, he didn’t offer any more information on just how much of the boys fans will get to see.

Let It Shine, which finished two weeks ago on BBC1 after trouncing ITV’s The Voice, was on a search for a five-piece band which could try and recreate the 90s Take That magic.

The successful boys chosen by the pubic are AJ Bentley, Sario Solomon, Curtis T Johns, Nick Carsberg and Yazdan Qafouri.

Remember those names because some are worried they’ll barely be making it into the programme!

The BBC said: “With Let it Shine we always said we were casting for a band to appear in a musical based on the music of Take That and they had to be able to sing and dance – like a boyband.

At least Take That fans are going to hear the boys belting out some of the band’s biggest hits.

The BBC added: “The winners will sing and dance to 14 Take That numbers in Gary’s musical.

“We never said we were casting actors. But they will be front and centre of the musical.”

The first chance to see what Gary’s really got planned will be at Manchester Opera House on September 8.

The show will then spend a year touring the UK before possibly getting a pick-up in the West End. But only if fans want the show back for good.
