Alison Steadman previously spoke out about dying, following the Gavin and Stacey star’s mum’s cancer diagnosis and subsequent death.
The actress – who is on Saturday Kitchen today (December 14) – was left devastated in the 1990s, when her mum, Majorie, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She went on to live for two years and was cared for at the Marie Curie Hospice in Liverpool.
And in a past interview, Alison opened up about how it is important to think about death and revealed her “ever-evolving” funeral plans.

Talking in 2020, Alison shared how she “still cries” for her mum and dad, decades on since their deaths.
“Mum never really talked about her own death. We never really had that conversation as a family,” she told Your Later Life.
Alison added: “I suppose we were always so keen on keeping her alive and keeping her positive that we didn’t go down that path. Maybe we should have?”

The award-winning actress then went on to note it’s important to “acknowledge that your time will come” too.
She shared: “While I do think about my own death sometimes, I try not to dwell on it because I’m very privileged. I’m of an age, I’m still working, I’m still busy. But you do need to be realistic, and you need to acknowledge that your turn will come.”
Alison then revealed that she’s made a list of music to be played at her funeral, but noted how she’s at the time, changed her mind about the song selection, dubbing her funeral plans an “ever-evolving”.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Alison recalled the life-changing moment doctors told her about her mum’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
She told the Telegraph: “I thought, I’m going to have a go at him; this isn’t good enough. He obviously was a brilliant guy, but he had no idea how to talk to people. He said: ‘I have to tell you, your mother’s got between two and six months to live.'”
