Right before the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special, Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, actor Mathew Horne has suffered a head injury during a West End show.
The TV star, known for his role as Gavin Shipman in the hit sitcom, is currently starring in a production of The Tempest at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.
But on Tuesday night (December 17) he only got 10 minutes into the show before he suffered a major blow.
Mathew Horne in ‘painful’ on-stage incident
The actor is said to have hit his forehead on a rock on the stage during a scene where he had to roll on the floor. The show was halted while he got rushed off the stage for medical attention.
It’s believed that for approximately 15 minutes the show was paused, but then Mathew decided he was fit to continue, despite a visible mark on his face.
Audience members spoke to The Sun about the extent of the incident.
One alleged: “Mathew’s forehead had a big, red mark on it and it looked pretty painful. Even from far away in the theatre.”
They explained the show was paused “as a precautionary measure” to ensure he wasn’t too badly injured.
The audience member praised the star: “He was a real trooper to finish the show because it can’t have been comfortable.”
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale photo-call
Despite the incident, it seems Mathew is doing fine. He attended a photo-call for the Gavin & Stacey: The Finale yesterday (Wednesday 18 December).
However, he was the only member of the cast who left early, avoiding a Q&A with the press.
The Christmas special is believed the be the final instalment of the sitcom. It will air on Christmas Day in a 90-minute special, after fans begged for more following the 2019 cliffhanger.
While Mathew hasn’t spoken about the on-stage accident publicly, he has been sharing images on his Instagram of recent cover shoots. So, it’s believed that he isn’t too badly injured.
