Gemma Atkinson reveals “tipsy” start to Gorka Marquez romance

Gemma Atkinson has revealed how Gorka Marquez looked after her during a night out following the launch of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing, paving the way for them to get together!

The former Strictly contestant posted a close-up photo on Instagram of herself next to Gorka, who has his hand over his face.

Former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Gemma has been in a relationship with Gorka since earlier this year, when friendship turned to romance on the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.

Gemma was partnered with Slovenian dancer Aljaz Skorjanec while Gorka danced with former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Next to the photo, Gemma wrote: “Who’d have thought a tipsy taxi ride after the Strictly launch party would lead us to where we are now.

“I’m so glad that on that evening I decided to give you my phone number, and I’m thankful you got me that much needed 2am pizza.

“Got me back to my hotel and handed me over to the girls safely and rang me in the morning checking I’d made my train back to Manchester (I hadn’t)!

“But hey! It was fun, and it lead to our friendship which months later, lead to our partnership. The rest they say is history and I cannot wait to see what the future holds with you Gorks!”

Fans loved Gemma’s story and left a slew of comments praising the couple’s relationship.

One said: “Awww this just gives me the warmest feeling ever. You guys are the cutest couple ever and not forgetting a bloody fit couple too. Pair of hotties. Bloody gorgeous together.”

Another said: “Love this. Such a beautiful story for a beautiful couple. The best love stories start as friendships.”

A third added: “He is definitely a keeper. You two are so lovely together.”

Gemma recently hinted things are VERY serious with Gorka by calling him The One.

In May, she lamented the fact she hadn’t seen her man for over two weeks, saying she missed him and was “counting down the days” until they reunited.

She told fans: “It’ll be 19 days we’ve had apart in total which is nothing looking at the bigger picture, but since we met last Aug we’ve never had more than 5 days apart so for us it’s a big deal.

“I’ve always been good on my own but I’m great when he’s around so I’m counting down the days like I did as a kid at Christmas. I feel so lucky to have someone who I miss when we’re apart and someone who makes me feel so excited about seeing them again.

“They always say the right one isn’t the one you can live with, it’s the one you can’t live without..”

Well, Gemma didn’t actually have to wait long to see Gorka as he surprised her by flying back to the UK for a whirlwind visit.

She told fans: “He flew to Manchester from Madrid for just 17hrs to surprise me!”

Gorka was recently confirmed for the line-up of professionals for this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

He voiced his delight on Twitter by positing: “SUPER EXCITED!!! To announce that I’ll be back for my 3rd series of @bbcstrictly. Cannot wait to be back on the dance floor every weekend with the rest of the amazing pros! #keepdancing.”
