Greggs issues apology after critics slam offensive Christmas campaign

Its use of a sausage roll has upset some

Greggs has issued an apology after offending people with its latest Christmas campaign.

The bakery chain released some pictures earlier this week to promote its new Advent calendar. (Yes, a Greggs advent calendar…)

One of the images depicted the Nativity scene with a sausage roll replacing baby Jesus.

Some people were upset to see their Saviour replaced by a, um, savoury pastry.

One man, Simon Richards, called for a boycott of the bakery chain on Twitter, writing: “Please boycott @GreggsOfficial to protest against its sick anti-Christian Advent Calendar.

“What cowards these people are: we all know that they would never dare insult other religions!

“They should donate every penny of their profits to @salvationarmyuk.”

Another said: “Fury as #Greggs’ replaces ‘Saviour’ with savoury in #NATIVITY scene with Sausage roll.

“Only #Christianity could be mocked in this way. There would be an absolute outcry if a satire of any other Faith was printed as a advert gimmick in this way.

“Please respect all faiths equally!”

Greggs said in a statement: “We’re really sorry to have caused any offence, this was never our intention.”

The Greggs calendar features 24 doors, with a token for a baked good behind each…
