Harry Styles ‘favourite to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann film’

But not everyone's convinced...

One Direction star Harry Styles has been tipped to win the role of Elvis Presley in a upcoming biopic of the music icon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 25-year-old Harry has tested for the part in Moulin Rouge! director’s Baz Luhrmann film alongside four other Hollywood actors.

Other names said to be in the frame include Kick-Ass’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 29, Ansel Elgort, 25, Miles Teller, 32, and 27-year-old Austin Butler.

But according to bookies Bovada, Harry is 7/5 favourite to be crowned as The King.

Fellow Brit Aaron is rated the least likely to land the job out of the five contenders, priced at 6/1.

Tom Hanks is believed to have already been cast as Elvis’ manager Col. Tom Parker, the entrepreneur that marketed the singer to the world.

He also proved influential over Elvis’ own film career and is rumoured to have taken a 50% cut of the rock ’n’ roll legend’s earnings.

It is thought the film will focus on the relationship between the two as Elvis’ career rises and falls.

There was a mixed reaction to the casting speculation on Twitter.

“We don’t want Elvis Harry, we want Harry playing Paul McCartney,” said one fan.

“One of the choices is Harry Styles… I mean, seriously? Are they kidding??? 🤣,” chuckled another commenter.

Another person pondering Harry in the role concluded: “Only if they’re playing an alternate Elvis who sports a man bun and a purse.”

And another person considered: “I saw Elvis in concert when I was about 9 and was really exposed to his music through my parents.

“I’ve seen Harry Styles in concert and watched Adam Lambert perform. Harry reminds me of the young Elvis days and Adam Lambert reminds me more of the older Elvis days. Tough choice.”
