Emmerdale bosses have released full details of the long-awaited Robert Sugden Christmas special – and let’s just say – it’s going to be a Christmas to remember.
It’s been a rollercoaster of a year for the fan favourite starting off with his wedding to his true love, Aaron Dingle, and ending with him ditching his plans to overthrow the Whites following the birth of his son.

Dales’ big boss, Iain McLeod, has already promised fans that Christmas 2017 will possibly be the weirdest episode they’ve ever seen and it looks like he could be right when Robert wakes on Dec 25th to find everything surreal.
And it’s not just a festive hangover.
As Rob wanders through the village, nothing is as it seems and he keeps waking up to different realities. If you think it’s all sounding a bit Groundhog Day then you’d be right because the ep is based on the classic movie staring Bill Murray.
There’s also a feel of A Christmas Carol about things as he has an epiphany before he’s able to return to reality.
But is his stark realisation about Seb, his dark and dodgy past or his relationship with Aaron? We won’t spoil it too much for you, but we can absolutely promise that Robert will be a changed man (again) after this.
And don’t forget there’s that surprise cameo appearance from someone from Robert’s past (please be Andy, please be Andy.)
Iain McLeod has said of the bizarre epsiode: “Think Groundhog Day, and A Christmas Carol with a little nod to the film Don’t Look Now thrown in and that’s been our approach to the Christmas Day episode.
“It’s been amazing to produce as we’re constantly thinking of ways to push the boundaries of storytelling and keep Emmerdale fresh and our loyal viewers on their toes!
“We’ve all acknowledged the risks of filming such a stand alone episode, but we sincerely hope the audience will appreciate we’ve tried to do something a bit different in the same way we devoted an episode to Ashley’s story last Christmas.”
He added: “Apart from the scary aspect to Robert’s situation, the episode is also heartfelt and hilarious in parts.
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a healthy dose of the Dingles and a comedy cameo which we hope will please our viewers.
