John-Paul McQueen’s dramatic exit teased in Hollyoaks cliff-top showdown

Terrifying cliff-top confrontation...

Could this be the end of Hollyoak’s John-Paul McQueen?

It certainly looks dramatic, as he and boyfriend James Nightingale have a cliff-top showdown.

Viewers have been given their first look at what the Channel 4 soap’s bosses have promised will be a “huge, dramatic” exit for the long-running character.

But exactly how John Paul leaves – and whether he lives or dies – is being kept firmly under wraps.

Actor James Sutton announced he was leaving the show after more than ten years, back in January.

And there’s plenty of action packed in to the teacher’s final week, with a surprise proposal from his boyfriend James (Gregory Finnegan), plus the revelation that John-Paul has been cheating with his estranged husband Ste Hay.

One thing’s for sure, they definitely don’t look like much of a happy couple in these spoiler shots. So did John Paul turn down James’ proposal? Has James learned about the affair? And how will it all play out?

There were rumours that John Paul could meet his maker by driving over the cliff. But now viewers are suggesting he could be murdered by his boyfriend.

Whether John-Paul is in the car alone, or if there’s an accident caused by his boyfriend, and whether or not he survives it all remains to be seen.

The scene is set when, after buying a new sports car, James takes John Paul on a trip to the seaside. But as he starts to behave erratically, he brings the car to a halt on a remote cliff-top.

“James is a fly-off-the-handle kind of character and he is liable to react in fairly intense ways,” explains actor Gregory.

“He’s not very rational when he first discovers things that he isn’t happy with. In this instance, there is something that bothers James which leads to him and John Paul being on the cliff.”

When asked about how impulsive James would react to finding out about his boyfriend’s affair, Gregory laughed: “Well I think I’ll leave that for you to work out.

“I don’t suspect it would go very well!”

You can watch the scenes play out in Hollyoaks each weekday at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes at 7pm on E4.
