George Clarke hosts new series Remarkable Renovations on Channel 4

His new series starts tonight on Channel 4

George Clarke returns to our screens tonight (July 21) hosing the first episode of his new series Remarkable Renovations.

Familiar to Channel 4 viewers as the host of Amazing Spaces, this time viewers will see George meet homeowners trying to breathe new life into old, dilapidated properties.

Announcing the show on social media, he said: “It’s taken nearly four years to make so I hope everyone enjoys it!”

But away from the screens, how much do you actually know about George?

So is he married? Does he have kids? And how did he start out on presenting? We have all you need to know here…

They tied the knot 2018 at a ceremony in Ibiza attended by friends and family.

Katie told her social media followers about their special day, writing at the time alongside a photo of herself and George: “Thank you to our amazing family and friends who made our day special.

“Here’s to love, happiness and good people. Memories.”

So is George Clarke a dad?

Yes, George has three children from his marriage with ex-wife Catriona.

Their names are Georgie, Emilio and Iona.

George and Catriona split in 2013.

The presenter said in a statement at the time that he and Catriona were together for “a long time” and were going through an “amicable separation”.

It read: “We have been married quite a long time. We have separate custody of the kids and are going through an amicable separation and divorce.”

So what does George actually do for a living?

George is a lecturer, author, architect and Government adviser on housing.

He decided he wanted to go into architecture at around the age of 12. His dad died when he was young. And George would visit his builder grandfather, as he “loved being around building sites”.

He told the Evening Standard: “I just loved being around sites and the process of building stuff, the banter and the atmosphere.

“One of my most vivid early memories was of my grandad taking me to the Portakabin on a building site where there were 40 or 50 blokes having fry-ups and smoking cigarettes.

“Probably the most unhealthy place in the world but I loved it.”

When he finished school, he worked for a local practice and, while studying at Newcastle University and later UCL, he supported himself by renovating homes.

So how did George Clarke end up on TV?

George fell into TV presenting by chance after being asked to write a book about architecture, not realising the agency also represented TV presenters.

He was asked to screen test for Channel 5’s Build a New Life in the Country in 2005, which he ended up hosting.

George then hosted two other property shows for Channel 5 before moving to Channel 4 and The Restoration Man.

Amazing Spaces, the show he is perhaps best known for, followed in 2012.

Old House New House and Ugly House to Lovely House followed.

Meanwhile, during the pandemic, he hosted a six-part series which saw him visit National Trust properties while they were closed.

So how much is George Clarke worth?

As a man with many strings to his bow, it comes as no surprise George is minted.

In fact, it’s estimated that he’s sitting on a nest egg of some £4.5 million.
