Jennie Garth has told how she is “in awe” of her Beverly Hills 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty, who is battling cancer.
The actresses grew up together on the hit 90s show and are still close, despite rumours of a rift a few years ago.
Shannen – who played Brenda Walsh on the programme – was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and has been documenting her journey online, often using the hashtag “#fightlikeagirl”.
Jennie has now posted a picture on Instagram of a t-shirt emblazoned with the words “Fight like a Brenda”.
And she wrote: “To my soul sister@theshando strongest lady i’ve ever known. then and now.
“i used to be threatened by your spirit, now i’m in awe of it. you’ve taught me a lot about speaking my mind and not being afraid of my power.
“i’m so grateful that young me got to be friends with you. but especially ‘old’ me! the best is yet to come on this crazy journey!! love you!” (SIC)
Shannen, 45, reposted Jennie’s message and said she was “so proud of this friendship and the mutual respect and admiration we have for each other”.
Last week, Shannen told how her mum inspires her in her battle with breast cancer.
The former Beverly Hills 90210 star posted a message on Instagram praising the courageous way her mother, Rosa, has coped with the death of her husband, Shannen’s dad Tom.
The 45-year-old – who was honoured with the American Cancer Society’s Courage Award in Los Angeles at the weekend – said her mum was one of the people who gave her strength.
She shared a picture of the pair on Instagram and wrote: “Yesterday marked the 6 year anniversary of my fathers death.
“Ironically, I accepted a courage award last night as well. But my courage comes from all sorts of things and people.
“Like this lady…. @themamarosa she lost her husband and best friend after over 40 years of being together every second and I’ve watched her get back up and face life with such courage.”
Shannen, who has been documenting her fight against cancer on social media, said she was “honoured” to be her daughter, adding: “Love you mom.#inspiration #courage.”
