Jonnie’s widow speaks out

Now, three months on from his death, his wife, Jess Irwin, has revealed what his final words to her were.

Jess sat down with HELLO! magazine for her first interview since Jonnie’s death.

She revealed that Jonnie had poured his heart into transforming their house in Newcastle, which they’d bought in 2021.

“Some of the last things I said to Jonnie were about this house and how grateful I was for everything he did to make it more than I could ever have dreamt of,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jess spoke about how Jonnie had told her he’d come back as a robin when he died.

She also confessed that she wasn’t prepared for the end when it came.

“It was cruel how quick it was. He came out of hospital the previous Friday and we lost him a week later. He didn’t leave bed the entire time, so we weren’t able to get out in the fresh air and process things,” she said.

She also revealed what Jonnie told her at the end.

“He told me ‘I’m so happy I met you’ and that he knew the boys would have the most joy and fun a person could bring,” she then said.
