In a new interview, Kanye West has revealed that his wife Bianca Censori urged him to see a doctor for his mental health struggles and autism diagnosis after previously being told he had bipolar disorder.
The rapper detailed how he has received a new diagnosis amid labelling himself a “psycho genius”.

Chatting to internet personality Justin Laboy, Kanye West detailed how seeing a new professional lead him to a different mental health diagnosis.
When asked about knowing when he is entering a mental health episode, he said: “Now, I watch for it beforehand. Other times, when you get to the point where it goes, you are going to stay in that position for a while.
“It might go for three days, four days, a week. Some people, if they get into an episode you have got to put them in a place that is not in public.
“It depends on the level, of what it is.”
He went on to discuss his new diagnosis stating: “Another thing is, they call it specifically bipolar, they put that on me. I said it, I put it on an album.”
Kanye went on to compare this to how when some individuals are faced with being called racial slurs or negative names, they reclaim the term and call themselves it.
Kanye West on autism diagnosis
He continued: “I went to this doctor, one that worked with Justin Bieber – I am not even going to name other names.
“My wife took me to do that because she said: ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it is bipolar, I have seen bipolar before.
“‘I have seen,’ she is educated so. ‘I have seen bipolar before and they find out it is really the case of autism.'”
Relaying his wife’s suspicions he confirmed: “That I have.”
Kanye continued: “It takes you to a Rain man thing, where you are like ‘aw man, I am going to wear this Trump hat,’ because I like Trump in general.
“And when people tell you to not do it, you just get on that one point and that is my problem when fans tell me to do my album a certain way.
“I will do it the opposite way, just because.”
Ye dubs himself ‘psycho genius’
Later on in the interview, he discussed rapper Kendrick Lamar’s talent in the industry, stating: “Do not rap against Kendrick Lamar.”
He then added: “Unless you’re a psycho genius like me.”
Kanye explained that previous career circumstances that stifled his control over his creativity, lead to a decline in his mental health, citing the breakdown of his relationship with fashion brand Adidas.
He said “not being in control” lead to occasions where he “spun… out of control.”
Kanye also revealed that since his new diagnosis, he has stopped taking his previously prescribed medication for bipolar disorder.
Discussing taking medication, he said: “It’s about finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity—obviously, that’s what I bring to the world.
“It’s worth the ramp-up, as long as y’all get the creativity.”
Kanye West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian previously said of the star’s battle with mental illness: “Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor.
“People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”
Kanye has previously referred to his bipolar disorder in songs, while the cover of his 2018 album ye features the jokey words: “I hate being Bi-Polar it’s awesome”.
