In a column for the Mail On Sunday’s You Magazine, Kate opened up about how her attitude to sex and relationships has changed over the years, and why middle aged women are more sexually satisfied than their millennial counterparts.
After the YOU 2018 Sex Survey revealed that most women over 40 would opt for the sex they have now over that they had in their 20s, Kate reflected on her own sex life.
“Looking back on my early romantic life, I was more worried about what impression I made on my dates than what I thought of them,” she said.
She compared dates to job interviews – claiming she concentrated more on putting on a show, both on dates and in bed, in order to impress her lover, than figuring out if she was enjoying herself.
Conversely, Kate claimed that women over 40 have learned to put their own feelings and desires first.
“Midlife women know what works for them and if they don’t, they have the confidence to go on a little adventure to find out.”
She claimed that older women have also figured out what it takes to have good sex – and that they keep it fun.

Kate opened up about her relationship with husband Derek Draper, admitting that the pair embarked on a “14 day challenge” that saw them have sex ever day for two weeks – despite Derek’s broken foot.
“Sex with your long-term partner can, I believe, encourage a real reconnection via conversation because you end up talking about all sorts of things and concerns that you’ve perhaps been meaning to bring up,” she said.
While Kate’s much younger colleague scoffed at the idea of a woman in her 50s writing about sex, Kate insisted that there’s nothing surprising about it.
She said the idea that older women don’t have sex was “hilarious” – they simply don’t talk about it as much.
