Kate Garraway has lifted the lid on just how difficult grieving her husband Derek Draper is following his death earlier this year.
Kate, who is a much-loved telly star, has remained candid about navigating the loss of her beloved husband and father of her two children, Darcey and William.
This means she has also been very open about just how difficult this time is and has previously admitted to feeling “numb” over the loss of Derek. Now, Kate has divulged just how fragile the healing process is.

Speaking at the Autoimmune Support & Awareness Foundation’s ball Kate told Closer: “I’m just at that early stage at the moment of coming out of grief. I’m just barely holding it together.
I’m just barely holding it together.
“I haven’t actually been out that much so it’s nice to come out tonight, although it is a school night. I’m on telly tomorrow –so I won’t be able to stay out late!”
Kate also detailed her current thoughts about the future. She said: “I’ve got my TV makeup on now so I look OK. But I really can’t believe I’m hurtling towards 60! I’m very much celebrating life now, whatever the age. I don’t know whether I’ll do a party yet. Derek passed away so recently so it’s just one step at a time.”
The Good Morning Britain host shared a tribute to her husband last month as she and her children marked their first Father’s Day without him. On June 16, Kate shared a throwback family snap of her, Derek and their kids. She wrote in the caption: “So yesterday was one of those days the kids and I knew would be tough. #fathersday – the day when everyone wants to celebrate their daddy.

Kate Garraway marks milestone after death of husband
“We started by visiting Derek’s grave early – and talked about all the amazing things we loved about him, the daft things he did to make us laugh and all the things he has given us that we’ll never forget.”
The TV regular continued: “We have so much to be grateful for. We’re also so grateful to still have my amazing dad in our lives and Derek’s dad too. Brilliant Papa & Grandad. Then thanks to my fab @global family we went to the #capitalsummertimeball – an amazing day of music and summer joy. It was sad coming home and not finding Derek waiting to hear ‘all about it’ as he used to say.
“But so wonderful that we had him at all.”
Derek died in January at the age of 56 following his battle with Covid-19 and its after-effects.
