Kate Garraway reveals mystery illness that left her ‘delirious’

Kate's health worries were initially feared to be much worse than they were

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has revealed she felt under the weather for weeks before she was rushed to hospital from the studio a couple of months ago.

The 51-year-old was off the show for several days after picking up a “nasty” virus that left her knocked for six.

But Kate’s health worries could have been much worse – it was initially feared she may have contracted meningitis.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the telly regular reflected on how she was laid low with symptoms consistent with the life-threatening condition.

“I felt really groggy for a couple of weeks, then one morning I went into GMB and my temperature shot through the roof,” Kate explained.

She continued: “I couldn’t look at the light and I was quite delirious because my temperature was so high.

“We’ve done a lot of stories on the show over the years about meningitis and I was displaying some of the signs.”

Kate previously told viewers she had been prevented from going on air by worried show bosses who insisted she seek medical attention.

The mum of two said: “I didn’t go home, I went straight to the hospital.

“They were thinking [a] meningitis-type virus, fortunately it wasn’t, it was all fine and they sorted me out.”

Kate had recently been linked with a spot in the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity – but reports claimed she ‘pulled out’ because she decided the timing wasn’t right for her to take part in the show.

“She’s a big fan of the show so she’s not ruling it out forever – just this year!” a TV insider was quoted as telling The Sun.

The Berkshire-born TV personality also told OK! she suffered another brief health scare after giving birth to son Billy.

Having found a lump while breastfeeding, Kate wasted no time in having an operation to remove it – and thankfully it turned out to be only a cyst.
