Loose Women star Katie Piper has revealed she’s had a prosthetic eye shell fitted following the acid attack that left her blind in one eye.
Katie has been incredibly open about her recovery from the attack. It took place in March 2008, with her ex-boyfriend and his accomplice being jailed for the attack.
Now, Katie has shared the news that she’s started her journey towards having a prosthetic eye fitted. It comes following a long battle with her eye health, including having her eyelid stitched closed in a bid to combat pain and save her eye.

This weekend, Katie shared a video of herself having a prosthetic eye shell fitted to Instagram. And explained that she’s both “hopeful and nervous” as she starts on her new journey.
The Loose Women star first shared a picture of herself sitting in her doctor’s chair. Next, she uploaded a video of the doctor fitting her prosthetic eye shell. In the video, Katie appears to flinch, as though in discomfort, as the shell is put into her eye socket.

She captioned the post: “After many years battling with my eye health, I’ve reached the end of road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell.
“This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me. As always I’m incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private health care system for their talent and kindness.
“I will share my journey, I’m hopeful and nervous about being able tolerate it and would love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this journey or have any advice.”

‘Can only imagine the pain you’ve been through’
Katie’s followers were quick to hail her bravery and send their well wishes in the comments section.
One said: “It looks very uncomfortable, but you are very strong and determined, so you will see this through with your usual vigor. You are such an inspiration to everyone Katie.”
Another added: “You’re very brave. Be kind to yourself.”
A third then commented: “You’re so strong brave and fearless. Nothing’s ever got in your way and you’ve never let any of them win!”
Another commented: “I hope the procedure is a success and helps you live with less pain in the future.” A fifth added: “I knew you’d suffered horrific head injuries but never realised you were blind in one eye. Such a strong lady, I salute you.”
