Kerry Katona has insisted she’s “not a bad mum” after being slapped with a £875 fine for one of her kids missing 45 days of school.
The former Atomic Kitten singer called the fine “pure bs” after being taken to court by East Sussex County Council, who claimed attendance fell as low as 48% between April and November last year.
Last month, the mum-of-five pleaded guilty and accepted the fine, but she said she only did it because she didn’t want her child to be stressed about a court case while completing their exams.
The singer, 38, also said she was told by pleading guilty she would receive a lesser fine.
Kerry told The Mirror: “I let my child off school three days before Christmas last year because I was up north doing panto and wanted all my kids to join me. They do [expletive] all at the end of term anyway.
“There were around another three days off sick. But 45 days off? No way. Pure bs.”
She claimed if her kids are a few minutes late for school they would automatically be marked as absent for the day.

She added: “When I turned up at the court I found it really intimidating. It was scary.
“They told me I had to go to a full trial and my kid would be a witness. But when the date came through, it was the day before an exam.
“I thought, you’re trying to fine me for keeping my child off school and now you want them off the day before an exam? Is this a joke?”

Kerry, who says she “works her a*** off” to provide for her family, recently enjoyed a trip to Greece, which she says was offered to her in return for reviews.
The singer is mum to Molly and Lilly-Sue, who she had with first husband Brian McFadden.
She shares daughter Heidi and son Max with second husband Mark Croft, and youngest daughter Dylan-Jorge with George Kay.
