Through The Keyhole: Inside Donald Trump’s extravagant homes

Prepare for more gold than you'd have imagined existed in the world

Trump Towers is one of the most opulent spaces Donald owns. Inspired by Louis XIV, the famous Sun King, born in 1638, brilliantly used architecture, gardens and interiors to construct the ultimate image of majesty. In the 17th century, interior decor was typically all wood, tapestry and textile. Chairs were boxy and throne-like, with high backs and stolid, turned legs. Under Louis XIV, the emphasis was on shimmer and shine. The interior of Versailles was veneered in marble and gilt wood paneling, inspiring Trump to create a similar look.
