Lady GaGa has denied her new hit song Perfect Illusion is about ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney.
In the song, the 30-year-old hitmaker screams, ‘It wasn’t love, it wasn’t love, it was a perfect illusion.’
And many speculated the lyrics had to be about her ex, Chicago Fire actor Kinney, who she split with in June.
But on Monday, after the single rocketed to the top spot on iTunes after its debut on Friday, Gaga told Andy Cohen’s Sirius radio show the song was not about the actor.
‘It’s sort of the elephant in the room about Perfect Illusion’: Like, “Is it about Taylor?’ is what everyone’s wondering,”‘ she started.
‘I just want to say…I love Taylor so, so much, and this song is not a hit out against Taylor. He’s my best friend.’
The Poker Face singer added: ‘This song is just about, I’m sure, not only the feelings I’ve had, that he’s had, that my friends have had, that my sister has in her relationship.
‘It’s a record about all of us. And I would never use my song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that I love so much.’
Gaga wore a white T-shirt that said Lady Gaga on the front and skimpy black shorts as she stopped by Andy’s show in NYC.
She added: ‘Perfect Illusion is about a lot of different people in my life, a lot of different things.
‘But the record is about being so intoxicated with love, you know, so high, dilated, falling free, in a modern ecstasy that you wake up one day and you can’t believe that it was not real.’
The Oscar nominated star then added: ‘The song is sort of raging against that experience.’
When asked if she and Taylor have ‘uncoupled’ like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, she said the comparison was not right.
‘We’re just two people figuring it out,’ was all she would say.
In July she said: ‘Hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules.’
She also said, ‘Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs and we have been taking a break.’
The pair split after five years in July this year.
The ‘Born This Way’ singer and Kinney had got engaged on Valentine’s day in 2015 after first meeting on the set of her “Yoü and I” music video in 2011, in which he played her naked, bathtub-dwelling love interest.
They started dating several months later.
The pair previously split for a brief period in May 2012 before getting back together the following month.
Gaga excitedly confirmed her engagement to Kinney via Instagram in February 2015, sharing a close-up photo of her stunning heart-shape diamond ring.
“He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!” she captioned the shot.
