One Direction singer Liam Payne amassed a vast net worth before his tragic death at the age of 31.
Liam died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of the hotel he was staying at in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He is survived by son Bear, seven. And it’s thought Bear will inherit the bulk of Liam’s fortune. Liam shared Bear with singer Cheryl Tweedy, who he originally met on The X Factor when he was aged 14.
Net worth of Liam Payne following his death aged 31
During his time in the limelight, Liam amassed a huge fortune. According to his Wikipedia page, in 2020, he was worth around £47 million.
He made the bulk of his money through music, having shot to fame with One Direction in 2010.
How he earned his money
Liam rose to fame alongside Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles as part of The X Factor boyband One Direction.
After years of hits, in Europe and across the rest of the world, the boys called it a day in 2016, announcing they were going on a hiatus after Zayn left the band.
Liam went on to have solo success with his debut single Strip That Down, a more risque record and a departure from his usual boyband style. He continued to release music, culminating in his debut album LP1 in 2019.
The singer also turned producer, working on songs for girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy. He also worked with artists such as Ed Sheeran and Pharrell Williams, and teamed up Rita Ora for a song on the 50 Shades soundtrack.
In May 2023, he revealed he was working on his second album. However, he ended up postponing his first solo tour dates in Latin America after being hospitalised with a kidney infection. Reports also emerged that his second album had been scrapped.
He did return to music with the single Teardrops, though, in March of this year. It turned out to be Liam’s final release.
Liam Payne net worth: Modelling career
Music aside, Liam’s good looks secured him a number of modelling contracts.
In May 2019, he was announced as the first global brand ambassador for Hugo Boss. The first Hugo x Liam Payne capsule collection was revealed during Berlin Fashion Week in July 2020. His second capsule collection with Hugo Boss was launched in May 2020.
The collection consisted mainly of men’s polo shirts, T-shirts, shorts, hoodies and sweatpants. In January 2020, Liam starred in the Hugo Boss fragrance campaign for its perfume Hugo Now.
Liam’s property empire
Like the other One Direction boys, Liam invested in property.
He previously owned homes in Malibu and Surrey, but put them up for sale in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Singer Halsey bought his California property for a reported £7.7m, it was reported at the time. His Surrey home reportedly sold for £6.8m.
Liam helped ex Cheryl to buy her £3.7m home in Buckinghamshire following their split. She lives there with son Bear and her mum Joan.

Bear’s inheritance
Liam also revealed he had a number of companies, which he was planning on handing over to Bear. Speaking to Logan Paul on his Impaulsive podcast in May 2022, Liam shared his plans for his son’s future.
“This is a conversation I had myself, what do I give him? My life now is his, my money is his. I have actually got several companies that are up and running that I know he can run one day if he wants to run them, or he can sell them. That’s his choice.”
He then continued: “I mean he’s five, right, so there’s a long way to go. I like to think ahead, and he’s a lovely, lovely boy. We’ve been blessed.”

Liam’s final song: Teardrops
The final song Liam Payne released before his tragic death was Teardrops. Fans are now reflecting on the poignancy of the lyrics.
“Teardrops are falling down your face again, ’cause I don’t know how to love you when I am broken too. All we do is break and bend, I’m struggling to see the sunrise lately. Really wish that I could mend all the little things that make you crazy. Checking all my friends, tryna to see what I did last night. Lately, I’m hating on myself ’cause I hate it when I make you cry,” he sings on the track.
