Linda Nolan has revealed that she has fallen three times this week as the side effects of her incurable cancer take a huge toll.
The Nolan Sisters singer was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer on her pelvis in 2017. In 2020, she was told it had spread to her liver. Last year, she was told it had spread to her brain.
This week, Linda revealed she’s seen her oncologist and, after starting a new drug, the tumours in her brain are “stable”. However, she has been suffering from another “worrying” symptom, and remembers her late sister Bernie – who died in 2013 from breast cancer – going through the same.

Writing in her column for The Mirror, Linda said: “I clearly remember the day Bernie couldn’t get out of her car. She and her husband pulled up outside our place in Blackpool and from upstairs I heard the kerfuffle. Her legs had just stopped working. ‘They just went,’ she told me once they finally got her inside. ‘Can I get you a glass of water?’ I asked, desperately worried. ‘No, but I’ll have a Vodka Mule,’ she said.”
Linda then revealed: “This week the same happened to me. We’d been out for lunch but when it came to getting out of my brother Brian’s car, I simply couldn’t. It’s the hardest thing to explain. You feel completely helpless – nothing is within your control. You go to put weight on your legs and there’s nothing there, so you fall back. Finally I managed to do it with a lot of help, but the wobbliness isn’t going away (and no, I didn’t hit the Mules). I’ve now achieved the hat trick – falling three times in a day. It hasn’t proved a charm.”
Linda explained that the first time she fell she was drawing the curtains. She eventually pulled herself up on the chest of drawers. The next time she was moving a side table and toppled over. Her brother came and helped her to her feet that time. The third time Linda said she tried to move the table again, and the same thing happened.
‘The necklace I never knew I wanted’
As a result of her unsteadiness, Linda now wears a panic button around her neck. She admitted she’s “completely embraced the reassurance” it brings. However, in true Linda style, the star did joke about the “necklace she never knew she wanted garrotting her”.
She quipped: “That panic button never leaves my neck. I even wear it out, not that it works outside. I’ve never had to use it, but I’ve completely embraced the reassurance. It’s the necklace I never knew I wanted. If the cancer doesn’t get me first, it’ll no doubt garrotte me.”
