Singer Jesy Nelson is determined to help battle the mental health crisis with her own documentary.
The Little Mix star announced her news today on Instagram, telling fans it was a topic very close to her heart as she has her own struggles with mental health.
The 27-year-old’s news comes days after Love Island star Mike Thalassitis took his own life.
Jesy, who is dating Love Island’s Chris Hughes, will be making a film with the BBC.
She explained in her online video: “So I can finally announce that I am making a film with the BBC and it’s a subject that’s really, really close to my heart and it’s about mental health awareness.”
She added that she felt passionate about her new project because wants to “make a change to other people’s lives.”
Her documentary will also explore the effect social media has on mental health and body image.
Jesy insisted that the country should be discussing mental health more openly.
She captioned her Instagram post with: “Mental health awareness is something we should all be talking about more. Having suffered myself I decided I want to do something about it.
“So I’m pleased to announce I’m making a film with the BBC, telling my own personal story and exploring how social media, body shaming and trolling is effecting the mental health of young people.”

The young star has been subjected to criticism over her appearance since growing up in the spotlight with her bandmates.
The band have been open up about the trolling they have faced since finding fame on the X Factor in 2011.
Jesy admitted on the show at the time that comments about her looks made her feel “rubbish”.
She is now loved-up with reality star Chris, who recently paid tribute to co-star Mike following his tragic death.

After the news of Mike’s passing, Chris, 26, wrote on social media: “His name was Mike Thalassitis, and every inch of my heart goes out to his family & friends. A good guy, taken far, far to soon.”
