Andrea McLean issues health update following ‘severe’ near-death experience

'That horrible moment was a turning point'

| Updated:

Former Loose Women star Andrea McLean has issued a health update after battling pneumonia and sepsis.

The TV presenter, 55, previously opened up about the scary situation and revealed she was rushed to hospital after collapsing at home in December.

However, in a new update, Andrea explained how her health has made her “re-evaluate her entire life”.

Andrea McLean in update following ‘severe’ illness

In an interview with the Mirror, Andrea revealed she was unaware of how “severe” her illness was at the time.

She said the doctor told her husband, Nick Feeney, that if she had not visited the hospital when she did, she “may not be here now”.

Recalling the horrific ordeal, Andrea explained: “I got up to go to the bathroom and just fell to the floor. By the time the paramedics arrived they said my blood pressure was so low they had to stabilise me before moving me.

“Our bedroom is in the loft and they couldn’t get the stretcher around the tight bend, but eventually I managed to slide down the stairs, and was rushed to hospital. What happened over the next few weeks changed my life forever.”

Leading up to her hospitalisation, Andrea had been unwell for 18 months, admitting she had contracted “nasty flu” and Covid three times.

However, after collapsing, Andrea stated her blood pressure was “60/40” and is still low to this day. Normal blood pressure sits around 120/80.

In January, she was in and out of hospital, which she describes as a “blur”.

‘I very nearly died’

Sadly, things went from bad to worse. While trying to recover, Andrea said she had to visit A&E again earlier this month after collapsing from getting out of bed “too fast”. As a result, she suffered a black eye.

Andrea said she “very nearly died”. As a result, she is aware of needing to listen to her body more.

“That scary, horrible moment was a turning point, it has led to now and I am feeling really positive about where I am going,” she added.

Get well soon, Andrea!
