ITV’s Lorraine Kelly has labelled Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher “horrible” for spitting at a 14-year-old girl.
Speaking on her show on Monday morning, the Scottish star said: “What’s going on in someone’s head to think that’s acceptable? I just don’t get it.”
Producers showed the clip, filmed on a mobile phone and obtained by the Mirror, of the former footballer driving on the motorway on Saturday.
As a man in the car next to him teases about an earlier football game where Jamie’s team lost out, the TV star leans out of his window and spits at the car.
The football fan’s teen daughter was closest to the window, and the video ends with her telling her dad that the spit had hit her in the face.
On the show, Lorraine, 58, continued: “Terrible, horrible. Sorry for showing that actually, it’s horrible.
“You wonder what else goes on, that’s really stunnered me as we say in Scotland.
“Not good, not acceptable.”

Jamie, 40, is due to have talks with his bosses at Sky – where he is thought to earn around £1 million a year – over the incident.
On Sunday, he apologised on Twitter, writing: “Totally out of order & Ive apologised personally to all the family this evening. I was goaded 3/4 times along the motorway while being filmed & lost my rag. No excuse apologies.”
His fans were divided in their replies.
Most seemed appalled, with one writing: “Absolutely disgusting, @SkySports should sack him ASAP”. Another added: “You can’t sit there judging people as a pundit with this behaviour behind you. Has to go.”
A third wrote: “Disgusting, what sort of example are you setting? If a player had done it on the pitch you would have slaughtered them!!!! 🤐”.
Others defended the former sport star’s actions, saying: “It was after he’d been goaded four times (at least) while trying to drive on a busy motorway. No doubt Carragher is in the wrong here but please don’t try the fake moral outrage, what would the average bloke had done?”
Another added: “Fair play for apologising straight away Carra”.
A spokesperson for the channel said: “It’s unacceptable behaviour and we will be addressing it with Jamie.”
The TV star, who retired from football in 2013, apologised for a second time on Monday, saying: “I’ll speak to the family again. I’m sorry. I’ll apologise again today properly.”
He was then asked if he had seen the girl in the car, and said: “I didn’t, to be honest, she was leant back. I wish she wasn’t involved. I hate that she was involved more than anything.”
