The 54-year-old Irishman was flying the helicopter when he lost control and crashed in New Jersey, about five minutes away from Morristown Airport.

The only injuries he suffered were minor back injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Another passenger was completely uninjured in the “surreal” crash.

What a lucky escape.

According to US news outlets, the helicopter had to try and stay away from overhead wires in a built-up area and ended up crashing into a garage before ending up near Chatham Village Apartments at 6.30pm on Friday.

Joe was only 10 minutes from his destination.

One local person told CBS: “It looked really low in the sky and it just kind of lunged forward, and we heard a bang. It sounded like it hit metal or something.

Another onlooker said: “We heard what we thought was an explosion. I was concerned it fell on the apartments. I rang over to make sure they were safe.

“Well I feel like there were angels looking out for a lot of people today.”

The Federal Aviation Administration have now launched an investigation into exactly what happened.
