The remaining Love Island couples meet each other’s parents and family members in Sunday’s emotional episode, before two lovebirds are given the boot at the final hurdle.

The coupled-up contestants were told in Friday’s broadcast to choose one rival couple they wanted to see dumped from the island.

Montana Brown and Alex Beattie, Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville, and Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt were chosen, and viewers were asked to vote for the two pairs they wanted to save from elimination.

In the penultimate episode of the series viewers will see one couple told by host Caroline Flack they have received the fewest votes from the public over the past few days, meaning they have been dumped from the ITV2 dating show.

Prior to the five couples being whittled down to the final four, the islanders will be seen nervously meeting up with their families and their partner’s relatives in the Majorcan villa.

There is a touch of awkwardness between Brown and her mother, and Beattie and his mother, as the parents tease their offspring for becoming intimate together on-screen.

Brown says it was really difficult for her not to have sex with her boyfriend, to which her mum replies: “You didn’t try that hard, did you!”

Her mother also warns her to “stop swearing”.

Beattie’s mum tells him: “You just seem really natural and comfortable in each other’s company which is great… You’re supportive and respectful… Just remember there are cameras all of the time!”

Cringing at his mother’s words, Beattie says: “I knew that would come up.”

Olivia Attwood reveals her nerves about meeting her boyfriend Chris Hughes’ parents because of their tempestuous on-off romance.

She says, in the villa’s private Beach Hut: “I was so nervous to meet Chris’ mum and dad because we’ve been through it and I’ve shouted and sworn at her son and vice versa so I was thinking they might hate me.”

Thurlow’s mum and dad enter the villa to meet her and her partner Jewitt and his parents, with plenty of tears springing up between them.

Breaking down in tears, Thurlow’s mum says to her daughter, who works in explosive ordnance disposal: “I just think it’s such a brave thing to have done.

“It’s very strange when I think that you’ve been off to these places to work and yet on the outside, this is lounging about in a villa in the sun all day, what is so brave about that? But it is such a brave thing to have done.”

Emotional meetings also take place between Kem Cetinay’s mum and brother and Amber Davies’s parents – with a visit from Cetinay’s best friend Hughes – and Allen’s mum and brother and Somerville’s mum and sister.

Love Island airs at 9pm on Sunday on ITV2.
