Alan Titchmarsh – who is hosting Love Your Weekend on Sunday (May 26) – reportedly once had a falling out with one of his Ground Force co-stars.
The 75-year-old left his co-star feeling “cross” during an incident that Alan spoke about back in 2000.
Love Your Weekend host Alan Titchmarsh has ‘row’ with co-star
In 2016, Alan’s co-star on Ground Force, Tommy Walsh, spoke about the time he and Alan nearly fell out.
Tommy made the admission during an interview with The Guardian.
The incident itself happened in 2000, when Tommy made a mess with sawdust on some flowers in an Essex garden.
Speaking to the Radio Times at the time, Alan said: “Call me picky if you like but I like my Ground Force gardens to be pristine when we finish them. I do not get a thrill from seeing them covered in dandruff.”
16 years later, Tommy admitted that Alan’s comments had made him “cross”.
“For a while it did get a bit hairy… What made me cross was that I was working flat out to get everything ready and here was Alan moaning about a bit of stray sawdust,” he said.
Love Your Weekend star Alan Titchmarsh slams cancel culture
In an interview last October, Alan opened up about cancel culture and how concerned he is by it.
“I think cancel culture is terrifying. It makes you very careful about what you say, and if the point ever came when that strain and that worry became too much, for me or my family, I think I’d say, enough. I’ll go,” he told The Telegraph.
“This is the first time I’ve ever admitted that. But I’ve had a good run.”
He then said: “As you get older you realise it’s an increasingly fragile path, because you can so easily be misconstrued. There are days when I think, do I really want to be putting my head up this parapet?”
Alan’s disappointing meeting with the Queen
In 2014, Alan opened up about a “disappointing” meeting he had with the late Queen.
He made the confession during an appearance at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in 2014, where he spoke of the time he was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour.
“When I got up to the Queen she asked me ‘Are you busy?’ I was slightly disappointed by the generality of the question but I told her about Gardeners’ World and Ground Force, which I was working on then,” he said.
“She chatted and then the hand came out for the handshake,” he then continued. Alan explained that the Queen reaching out to shake his hand signalled that their conversation was over.
“As I shook her hand she said ‘Well you give a lot of ladies a lot of pleasure’,” he said.
Love Your Weekend airs on Sunday, May 26 at 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
