Mariah Carey begged her ex Nick Cannon for a divorce so she could marry billionaire fiancé James Packer – only to split with him just DAYS later, according to new reports.
The singer was so desperate to wed the Australian she called her ex-husband and told him to hurry up and sign off their divorce papers.
Although Nick and Mariah split in 2014, their divorce had been held up because of negotiations between their lawyers over the terms and custody of their five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan.
Mariah, 46, even reportedly recruited famed Los Angeles divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to try and speed up the process before calling Nick and asking him to sign the papers.
“Nick and Mariah’s divorce was dragging on and on, mainly because of the back and forth between their lawyers,” an insider told the New York Post’s gossip column.
“Mariah’s team brought in Laura Wasser, who helped simplify things, but then Mariah called Nick and said, ‘I really want to get married. Will you sign these papers?’
“Nick was cool and said, ‘I’m not going to stand in your way. I’ll sign the papers.’
Nick, 36, ended up signing the papers in September – as Mariah and James wanted to get married in early 2017, according to the source.
The couple had planned to have a lavish wedding in Bora Bora on March 1.
But Mariah and James, 49, split just days later after a furious fight.
The Vision of Love singer is now reportedly asking James for a $50 million settlement for the “emotional upheaval” of moving from New York to Los Angeles.
She is also believed to have kept her $10 million engagement ring.
Since the high-profile split, Mariah has been linked with her backup dancer Bryan Tanaka and was spotted enjoying an intimate dinner with him in Hollywood on Wednesday, according to Daily Mail Online.
