Matt Terry wins X Factor, set to top charts with Ed Sheeran single

Was it fair that Honey G performed her single on final night?

Winner of the X Factor Matt Terry says he cannot believe that he was the lucky fella to scoop the title in last night’s drawn out final.

Speaking just minutes after beating Saara Aalto into second place, the supercute smiler told the XTra Factor panel, “It’s so overwhelming. I can’t believe it’s happening to me. I’ve waited for this to happen for such a long time.”

He added that he was over the moon that his first single, When Christmas Comes Around, has been written by Ed Sheeran, admitting, “I cannot wait to see the cover of the single – I am just so excited.”

While it was his amazing voice (not to mention a loyal band of teenage girls) that helped him win the show, gallant Matt took a moment to pay tribute to his stunning mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, who he duetted with on the Saturday show.

“Since day one, she’s been there with open arms,” he said.

“I feel like I got her if I have any concerns. She’s like I am your big sister. It’s refreshing to have that.”

Turning to Nicole he said: “I hit the jackpot with you.”

Nicole, who some viewers thought was a little bit squiffy during the seemingly endless final, was just as lovey dovey as about her charge, gushing: “It’s been dream. We are so alike. We speak the same language. When I say things, people are like ‘what?’ but he’s like ‘yeah got it boss!’

Although the final appeared to be a tightly fought race between favourite Matt and Saara, it actually turned out that it was pretty inevitable that Matt was going to win from the start of the series.

According to stats revealed by the show after the final, Matt had topped the phone voting for six times of the live episodes, with Emily Middlemas tying with him on week four, and 5 After Midnight winning a couple of shows and Saara topping the last two.

On the final night itself, which saw Matt and Saara battle it out with 5 After Midnight, it was a clear two horse race with Matt Terry securing 48.5% of the vote,  Saara Aalto nabbing 40.4% and 5 After Midnight trailing with just 11.1%.

With Matt’s charity single set to hit the top of the charts this week, it’s expected that Saara will announce that she too has been offered a record deal.

However, viewers were furious on Saturday night when Honey G made a shock return to the show to perform a montage of rap hits, which included a snippet of her own single that is due out in two weeks.

At the end of the song, the lumbering joke act boasted to viewers that the single The Honey G Show, would be available on December 23, and viewers felt that that was very unfair.

Many said they felt the dodgy rapper’s appearance on Saturday night was insulting to the three finalists who were still battling it out to win the competition, letting slip she’d already recorded a single before the winner had been announced.

It’ll be interesting to see how Honey G’s single fares in the chart as the show’s stats proved that each week of the live shows she became less and less popular with viewers in spite of the fact judges began to praise her for lavishly amateurish performances.

We look forward to see what the future holds for Honey, Saara and Matt.
