Matthew Wright became tearful as he and his wife Amelia opened up about their difficult IVF struggle on Lorraine.
Earlier this month, the couple announced the joyous news that they’re expecting their first child, a baby girl, after eight years of IVF treatment and six heartbreaking miscarriages.
During Wednesday’s show, the pair spoke about their “last chance” to try and conceive a baby through IVF, before Matthew teared up as they received congratulatory video messages from his celebrity friends.

Having recently announced her pregnancy, Amelia gushed: “I almost can’t believe it’s happening. Eight years trying, six miscarriages. But seventh time lucky.”
Speaking about their struggle with IVF, Matthew added: “The last time Amelia met you I was in the jungle and she was just talking then about struggling to have a child and then immediately after that was two very big miscarriages. That was very hard.”
Amelia continued: “After that happened I thought ‘I need to have a break.’ I don’t know what the future holds. Maybe we’re not meant to be parents.
“So we just had to take a break and think about what we wanted to do. Mentally and physically it’s good to do that. Last chance saloon.”
Amelia explained that they had an “embryo in the freezer” which had been there for six years.
She said: “We were talking about donating it to medical science. Because I just didn’t know if I could go through another round of heartbreak, disappointment, I didn’t know if I could put myself through it.
“And then when it came down to it, I just couldn’t give it up, I had to give it one last shot.”
Matthew admitted he used to never have an interest in being a parent until now and also revealed he and Amelia have gone to hospital “half a dozen times” during the pregnancy.
Talking about how Matthew will be as a father, Amelia gushed: “We talked about it earlier, he’s going to be the most doting dad. Hands on.”
Discussing how he’s planning to make fatherhood his number one priority, Matthew said: “Primary carer, potentially. I’m being quite serious about that.
“I was thinking, I had one eye on early retirement, some fishing, chilling out, wine in the sunshine, and then the baby news came I think three, four days after I quit my job on the telly and I thought ‘blimey, I might have to go back to work now.’ But actually I’m thinking ‘no I can be a pensioner parent.'”
Host Lorraine Kelly then surprised the couple with congratulatory messages from a string of their famous faces, including Anne Diamond and Christopher Biggins.
Struggling to contain his emotions, Matthew put his head in his hands while Amelia placed her hand on his leg.
Matthew gushed: “The support has meant so much, especially through some very bleak times so thank you.”
Earlier this month, Matthew opened up about the pregnancy during his talkRadio show.

Speaking about his unborn daughter, he said: “She’s due on Valentine’s Day. Amelia, my wife, has had a very very difficult time of it.
“You know, I’m 53, coming up 54, she’s 42, and, we were just thinking it’s not going to happen. It’s too late.”
He added: “I won’t use the word miracle. It’s not a miracle, it’s the appliance of science. But I will say, Amelia’s very lucky, and I must be very lucky too.”
