The Wanted singer Max George has delivered an update on his heart to his Instagram followers, saying the past few nights have been “really rough”, and revealing that he’ll likely go in for emergency surgery “quicker than the doctors first thought”.
Yesterday (Dec 16), ED! reported that Max would be in hospital over the Christmas period.
Over the past few days, he’s been updating his fans on plans for him to have open-heart surgery to potentially have a pacemaker installed.
He has a second-degree ventricular block, or AV block, in his heart. However, he has stressed throughout that he feels “very lucky” to be receiving the care he is, and “in the best place”.
Max George may be home for Christmas after emergency surgery
Yesterday evening (December 16), Max – one member of The Wanted – posted a series of photos and videos to his Instagram followers updating them on his medical condition.
“Had a little day trip today,” he wrote in the caption. “Full CT scan on my heart. Not something I’d choose to do again!
“As I mentioned yesterday, I have a 2:1 block in my heart.”
That’s shorthand for second-degree ventricular block. It’s a disease that affects the electrical signals that tell the heart when to beat. Usually, it means the heart beats slower than normal, or arrhythmically.
“Unfortunately my heart rate hasn’t picked up at all in almost a week. Because of this, we don’t have to wait too long so it looks like I’m going to be in surgery way quicker than the doctors first thought.”
The good news?
“I may even be home for Christmas!”
“The last few nights have been really rough,” he went on. “But I wanted to say that I’m absolutely humbled by all your messages of support. Both people I know and those I don’t.
“It’s given me a much-needed boost and my family have been overwhelmed with support, which means more to me than anything.”

That’s not to mention his bandmates and friends.

“You got this,” he added. “Sending you all my strength and love, brother.”
