Melanie Chisholm has said the Spice Girls are getting back together because the world needs a little more girl power right now.
There have been rumours of a £10 million pay day per band member floating around, but Mel C insisted the group just want to spread a little happiness and joy in tough times.
There was serious excitement on Friday night when Mel C, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner confirmed they were reuniting to explore new opportunities.
Their cosy meeting at Geri’s house also marked the first time the five-piece had been pictured together since 2012.
Mel C phoned into Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show yesterday to dish the goss on just what the girls had discussed, and explain just why they’re reuniting now after so many years.

“One of the reasons we wanted to get together and talk about things is that now we realise some of the impact we did have on young people at the time,” she said.
“And now we have kids, there is another generation that enjoy our music and we just want to empower people and girls.
“There are so many negative things going on in the world all the time and we feel the Spice Girls was always a little bit of fun and something else to enjoy when it’s tough times, maybe.”
Mel C couldn’t put her finger on which Spice Girl had initiated the chat, saying they’d met up individually over the years and it had always been something that was brewing under the surface.
“The funny thing is that unfortunately we can’t do anything without it being all over the press,” she said.
“When we got together for lunch, it was so lovely to see everybody as we haven’t all been together, the five of us, since the Olympics.
“We just wanted to get together, have a catch up, a chat, and see where everybody is.”

While rumours have been spreading of a new tour, new music, television work or even judging a talent show, Mel C insisted no firm decisions have been made about what a Spice Girls reunion will look like.
“We are talking about opportunities and ideas we’ve got for the future but it is early stages and there isn’t anything set in stone right now,” she said.
“There is no big announcement.
“But it’s great to be back in Spice World and to see the reaction. It’s lovely to know people still care.”
A statement released by the group said: “We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together.

“We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for the Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together.
“We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of the Spice Girls while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
Spice Girls, who were joined by manager Simon Fuller at the meeting yesterday, shot to fame in 1996 with catchy song Wannabe.
A string of chart-topping hits and even a movie, Spice World, followed, before Geri decided to quit the group in 1998, leaving Mel C, Mel B, Victoria and Emma to continue as a foursome until 2000.
They reunited for a tour and new music in 2007, and performed at the London Olympics 2012 Closing Ceremony.
