She’s currently embroiled in an ‘is she or isn’t she?’ mystery about an alleged relationship with Olly Murs, but it was an old pop star flame of Melanie Sykes who has just gone on the record to reveal his love for her.
Mel, 47, was in the audience to watch her ex Matt Goss – he of Bros fame – perform at his sell out Shepherd’s Bush Empire show on Thursday night.
The Sun reports that Mel was left ‘blushing’ as Matt spoke of their five-year romance back in the 80s.

Matt, 49, was talking about first ‘true loves’ and told the crowd who was his.
“I guess it was Mel,” he said, revealing how they had met “many years ago” but that it didn’t work out.
“It was a blind date. She was so nervous she spilt her wine into my plate,” he said, adding: “She got up to go to the loo and ended up in the men’s toilets.”
The pair forged a strong bond though, despite their distasterous first night out, and ended up an item for many years.
“I drove to Manchester with a giant teddy bear and I begged her parents if I could basically kidnap her,” Matt told the packed venue. “So I took her to London with me and we lived together for five years.”
Of their split, Matt was philosophical:
“We both moved on and found other loves,” he said. “Been in and out of love. But we’ve remained best friends. So this is for you…”

Mel was reportedly ‘just as surprised’ as the audience by Matt’s wistful words about their relationship, including some intimate details he revealed about how they had got tattoos together.
“I got a bald eagle, because it symbolised being close to heaven and heaven on earth,” he said, before adding that “Mel got a strawberry… up here,” and gestured to her inner thigh.
Melanie was later overheard saying she had ‘no idea’ that Matt was going to discuss her on stage – although she was probably relieved it took the heat off the current story doing the rounds about her and Olly Murs.
Rumous first started circulating that the pair were an item back in November, with the Sun claiming they had been secretly dating for almost a year.
Mel responded to the story by uploading a pic of her at the Business Woman of the Year awards in Dublin, captioning it:
“This is what a single, happy, healthy, 47yrs old independent mother of two teenage sons looks like. DEAL WITH IT!”
Over the past few years, Melanie’s love life has attracted a lot of press interest. The model-turned-radio-and-TV-presenter married her first husband, actor Daniel Caltagirone in January 2001, and the pair went on to have two sons together, Roman, born in 2002, and Valentino born in 2004.
They split up in 2008, and Mel married for the second time in 2013, after a whirlwind romance with a roofer, Jack Cockings, whom she met on Twitter.
The relationship was the subject of many newspaper column inches, but was short-lived, and seemingly not very harmonious. Melanie filed for divorce before they reached their first anniversary.
