Michelle Keegan could be heading to The Great British Bake Off.
Channel 4 bosses are desperate to snap up the actress for their celebrity special, and Michelle is keen to take part. “I would love to do it,” she said.
“I got offered the chance to take part last year, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to do it because I was away working.”
The next full series of the baking competition won’t air until 2018, but a celebrity version will be screened in the autumn in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.
Last year Michelle took part in Stand Up to Cancer’s version of The Crystal Maze.
Channel 4 want to secure some high profile stars for the show, which has been hit by negative publicity since they took it away from the BBC.
“They’ve made signing up names for the celebrity special a priority and Michelle Keegan is top of the list as she is apparently a very keen baker,” a source told The Sun.
“The issue is whether or not she can fit it in with her other work projects. She will be travelling to South Africa in the near future to film the second series of Our Girl, and that won’t leave a lot of time for baking.”
Fans of The Great British Bake Off were stunned last September when it was revealed that Channel 4 had bought the rights to the show, and even more disappointed when it was announced that Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins were leaving.
Only Paul Hollywood remains from the original line-up. Mary Berry will be replaced by Prue Leith, while Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig take over as hosts.
Prue has admitted that she asked Mary for advice before taking he job – as she wanted to find out what Paul was like.
“So I rang her up before I took the job to find out about Paul. I was very anxious to know. She said he was lovely, so that was OK.”
She also revealed that her two children are fans of Noel Fielding. “I’ve only heard of him because my children just adored him,’ she told The Sun. “They don’t watch Bake Off but they do watch him.
“My daughter said rather rudely, “Well now he’s in it I might watch it.” I was like: “What about me?”
