Michelle Keegan says she “missed a year” of her life

She also spoke about Mark Wright and LA on Radio 1

Michelle Keegan appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show to chat about Our Girl, Strictly Come Dancing and, of course, husband Mark Wright.

The former Coronation Street star is on the publicity trail for the new series of Our Girl, which starts on Tuesday night, and her episode of Who Do You Think You Are? which airs on Wednesday.

It’s clearly a busy time for Michelle, 31, but she’s used to that!

Chatting to Nick Grimshaw, the ex soap star admitted she’d basically “missed a year” of her life while filming Our Girl over a period of eight months last year.

She explained: “[This series is] set in Nigeria but the episodes going out in the next few weeks were filmed in South Africa and Malaysia. It’s a long way away.

“Last year, I was away for eight months. I came home in August for just two weeks, but apart from that I was out there. It was so long. It’s only now I look back and think I missed a year! A year! It’s madness!”

As well as filming Our Girl, she also found time to film an episode of ancestry show, Who Do You Think You Are?, which included travelling to Gibraltar to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps.

Michelle’s busy calendar also means she’s got zero time for Strictly Come Dancing this year, despite previously being linked to the BBC One competition.

“I’d never say never [to doing Strictly] as you don’t know what will happen in the future, but this year, yes, it’s definitely ruled out because I’m working from August until Christmas,” she said.

“Mark did it and got to the semi-final and came fourth, which I can’t believe! He was dancing at home all the time – ALL the time! I was trying to watch TV and I’d see him doing spins in the corner.”

Michelle added that if she did ever do Strictly she couldn’t see herself being that competitive, adding: “I’d probably just enjoy the experience.”

Michelle also cleared up headlines that she’d NEVER move to Los Angeles with husband Mark, who currently works US TV show Extra.

“I would never rule it out,” she said. “Never say never but at the minute I like going back and forward. I like the option. I like going out for a month and coming back for a few weeks. Mark loves it there. I think it’s the lifestyle, the weather. It’s such a nice place and everyone is so positive.”

Another rumour Michelle cleared up was the suggestion she’s trying to change her accent into something a bit “posher”.

Laughing, she said: “I can’t! It’s too thick. Obviously for auditions I do because I’m being someone else, but when it’s me, I can’t. It’s who I am.”

Michelle can be seen in Our Girl, which airs Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.

Her episode of Who Do You Think You Are? airs Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
