Michelle Keegan eager to ditch nice girl image for darker roles

This would be some departure for the much-loved actress

Michelle Keegan has always taken on roles which have made her super-likeable on our screens.

From Tina in Corrie, to Georgie Lane in Our Girl, and, er, Tina in Tina & Bobby, all her characters have been really nice..

The 29-year-old has now revealed that she wants to mix that up and would love to play a darker role.

The brunette beauty would rather play a “serial killer” next than another “nice girl”!

Talking to the Daily Star, Michelle revealed: “I always play nice girls.

“It would be quite nice to play a bit of a baddie.

“I’d love to do something a bit darker.”

The TV star, who is married to former TOWIE star Mark Wright, added: “I want to do something totally different, like playing a serial killer.

“And I’d really love to do a film – that’s any actor’s dream.”

Just last year Michelle opened up about playing a darker role.

Speaking about her career to Glamour Magazine in November, the star said: “I want to do a really dark role next, not a villain but something dangerous.

“I’ve always been a well-liked actor and I would love people to hate me!”

The Tina & Bobby star also spoke about her best known role playing Tina McIntyre on the Corrie cobbles who was killed off in 2014.

She said: “I was nervous – I didn’t know if I was going to work again.

“There was no going back, because Tina died.

“But I didn’t want to look back in 10 years’ time and think, ‘What if?’

“That’s why I did it and, touch wood, it’s gone OK.”

And it certainly has as Michelle has now gone on to land huge roles in successful shows.

She added: “I could have stayed at Corrie my whole life. It’s like a family.

“But if I didn’t leave when I did, I never would have left.

“I have to go out and find work. I have to push myself now and go for lots of auditions.”

Down-to-earth Michelle has said she feels “very lucky” for the opportunities she’s been given.

She said: “I’ve been very lucky. It’s been a case of the right place, right time.

“I wanted to go away from Corrie and try my best to do other roles and see if I could do them well.”

Luck might have something to do with it – but Michelle has proven time and again she has the talent to match it.
