Mickey Rourke unrecognisable in early pics before surgery – ‘several’ facelifts, countless nose jobs, cheek implants

Mickey was a heart-throb back in the 1980s

| Updated:

Those who watched Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke in early films will be aware of how unrecognisable the star looks today due to plastic surgery.

However, those who have just been recently acquainted with him from Celebrity Big Brother might be in for a shock when discovering his transformation.

The 72-year-old actor, who has been featured in countless movies from Angel Heart to The Wrestler, is currently a housemate on the ITV reality show. The new series launched on Monday (April 7). Other housemates include JoJo Siwa, Trisha Goddard and Angellica Bell.

Here, we take a look at all the work he’s had done and why he was required to go under the knife several times…

Mickey Rourke before plastic surgery

Before starring in huge films, Mickey – who’s been handed a warning by Big Brother over “homophobic” language – was a boxer. However, he left the ring to pursue a career in acting in the late 1970s.

During the 1980s, Mickey found major success in movies such as Bodyheat and 9½ Weeks, where he was embraced as a heart-throb and a poster boy for fans around the world.

That said, after developing a love for boxing at the tender age of 12, Mickey – who faced backlash for his behaviour towards CBB host AJ Odudu on launch night – decided to quit acting and return to boxing.

Mickey’s facial reconstruction

While his career didn’t take a hit, his natural good looks certainly did. After suffering several painful facial injuries, Mickey was required to have reconstructive surgery.

During his time as a boxer, he suffered two broken noses and a smashed cheekbone. To help recover from the damage to his nose, Mickey underwent an astonishing five rhinoplasty surgeries to try and reconstruct his nose using cartilage from his ear.

He also had operations to remove scar tissue that hampered healing.

His ex-wife, Debra Feuer, also revealed to the Mirror that Mickey had cheek implants. In 2009, she said: “He’ll kill me for saying this, but he wanted the part in one film so badly that he got cheek implants.”

“He told me he was swollen because he’d had his molar teeth removed.”

Debra continued: “But I knew that was untrue — he didn’t have any molars to take out.”

Fans over the years have speculated that the movie Debra is referring to is Wild Orchid from 1990. However, in 2008, Mickey embraced his rugged wrestler look for the 2008 film The Wrestler.

‘I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together’

In 2009, Mickey opened up about his drastic new look, stating the shocking change was due to trusting the “wrong” surgeon.

“Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together,” he told the MailOnline.

“I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn’t healing properly.

Mickey continued: “That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was haemorrhoids.”

Mickey underwent ‘several facelifts’

According to The Sun, between 2010 and 2016, Mickey had several facelifts as he wanted to maintain a youthful appearance.

Mickey allegedly had more cheek implants to enhance his facial features.

In 2017, he took to Instagram to announce he had another nose job. Within the upload, Mickey posed alongside his surgeon while sitting up in a hospital bed.

“Moments after nose surgery with Dr. Dhir. Now i am ‘pretty again’ (lol)…one more to go,” he wrote.

As noted by The Sun, Mickey has continued to have procedures done in recent years. According to the outlet, he reportedly used Botox and filler on his lips, cheeks and forehead to maintain a refined appearance.

While Mickey has been open about a number of procedures he’s had done, some are still purely down to speculation.

Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight (April 9) at 9pm on ITV1.
