Carla Connor’s comeback to Coronation Street could be set to last for a long time.
Corrie boss Kate Oates has revealed it took her a long time to convince actress Alison King to return to play the part that made her famous.
Alison originally bowed out of the soap after becoming exhausted by the rigours of playing such a popular character for so long in such high-profile storylines.
Kate told the Daily Star: “It’s my job to make sure she doesn’t feel exhausted like she did last time, because you want longevity from characters.

“It’s really hard when people are cursed by their own popularity, if you like.
“They are played in every storyline and that’s hard, especially when you’re on six episodes a week.”
Kate also teased Carla’s reason for returning to the cobbles in the first place.
Calling her return a “Christmas gift for the nation”, Kate promised viewers would be surprised by the story.

The storyline will have “long-running consequences” for Carla and her family.
Hopefully that will mean viewers will have a lot of Carla Connor in their future.
