New pictures of The London Resort: UK’s £3.5 billion ‘Disneyland’

The first phase of the Kent mega theme park is due to be ready for 2024

New pictures of a planned £3.5 billion theme park billed as Britain’s version of Disneyland – with six themed ‘islands’ – have been released.

According to reports, The London Resort will open in the south east of England in five years time – and it is going to be huge.

Developers hope the attraction – the first to be built from scratch since Disneyland Paris over 25 years ago – will be the equivalent size of 136 Wembley Stadiums.

It is due to be constructed on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent, near Gravesend and Dartford and it is hoped it will be the most sustainable theme park in the world.

EDF Energy has partnered up with builders of the proposed giant entertainment complex to ensure the goal of Net Zero emissions is hit.

It has already cost £70 million before any construction has started.

The new images show artists’ impressions of how the Resort will be laid out, with the first phase due to be ready for 2024.

A second phase for the development is planned to open in 2029.

A High Street – packed with shops, restaurants, hotels, a convention centre and a water park – can be seen in the new images, and the islands are due to be named Starport, The Jungle, The Isles, The Kingdom, The Woods and The Studio.

Around 70% of the monster park’s rides and attractions will be under cover.

The Studios will be a modern day warehouse district airing films and The Woods has been described a fantasy land where visitors can embark on adventures that put a unique spin on classic fairy tales.

The Kingdom sounds like a dream for fantasy fans, drawing upon medieval legends while The Isles will be a land of giant creatures and mythical beasts.

The Jungle island will feature a long lost ‘Mesoamerican civilisation’ and The Starport is designed to be a busy 23rd Century zone, launching visitors into sci-fi escapades.
