Okay, so when One Direction told us they were going on their hiatus, we all reckoned that that was it! That they were well and truly over.
But it seems that there is a glimmer of hope that Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson will reunite some time soon.
According to Niall, who last week released a solo single This Town, he and the boys could be whipping up some new tunes for us “in the forseeable future”.
“For now we are doing our own thing,” he said of his bandmates extra-curricular activities, which includes Harry becoming a movie star and Liam potentially becoming a dad. “We can’t put a date on it but it won’t be in 50 years.”
Teasing some more, he added: “It’s in the foreseeable future. We’ve talked about it, but for now we’ll just play it by ear and see what happens.”
While the idea of a 1D reunion is super exciting to the musical maestro, the Irish leprechaun is currently enjoying life as a solo artiste and is chuffed by the “insane” reaction to This Town from his loyal and devoted fans.
“I’ve been sitting on it for so long and keeping it a secret. It was a nerve-wracking time,’ he modestly confessed. ‘It’s always been a daunting prospect but the reaction has been insane. I am 100 per cent relieved that people like it.”
Niall told Graham Norton on his show that it was during a backpacking adventure that he decided the choice of sound he opted for for his solo efforts.
“When I got back from Asia I just started doing acoustic stuff- the stuff I grew up on- and thought, ‘Maybe I should release them. They’re actually not that bad.'”
If you want to hear more of his musical musings, his debut solo album will be released next year.
