| Updated:

The Our Girl cast have jetted off to Nepal and South Africa to start filming for the brand new series, which is set to air later this year.

Now the first images have emerged for the BBC drama and we couldn’t be more excited!

The BBC released the first snap of Michelle Keegan in her role as Lance Corporal Georgie Lane as she posed in her army uniform.

The 29-year-old won over viewers during last year’s series and fans were ecstatic to hear she was returning for a third.

And you will probably recognise some familiar faces from the last series in the second photo released by BBC One, which shows the cast altogether preparing to film.

Luke Pasqualino, who plays Special Forces Officer Elvis Harte, Ben Alrdridge as Captain Charles James and Sean Ward, who plays Fingers, are all returning to the drama.

Announcing the return of the drama on Twitter BBC One wrote: “#OurGirl is reporting for duty. Can you spot any familiar faces in this snap from today’s Series 3 read-through?”

Now that filming is underway the cast shared photos to their social media to give fans a glance into the new series.

Former Coronation Street Michelle shared a snap of her script with the caption: “She’s back!!! Read-through today for the next series of ‘Our Girl’! #georgielane #exciting #letsgo @bbcone.”

Sean, 29, also shared a snap of himself in army uniform as he joins the rest of the cast as they film across several countries.

Of course our hearts filled with joy as it was announced the new series would be back on our screens.

Fans were also very excited as one wrote on Twitter: “Best programme! Can’t wait!!”

Another added: “I’m too excited about this!”

“Sooo happy to see these much loved familiar faces,” a third tweeted.

The new series will see army medic Georgie taking part in three separate missions.

The first will take her and the team to Nepal following a devastating earthquake.

Speaking about the role Michelle said: “I’m so happy to be shooting the new series of Our Girl out in Nepal and so very excited to bring more stories of Georgie Lane to life.

“It’s an amazing experience to be working on such important stories with such an incredible group of people.”
