Paul O’Grady comes out fighting in support of NHS workers

He's got it in for Nigel Farage!

Much has been made of the imminent Brexit and the effect it will have on the NHS – and the latest person to have their say is Paul O’Grady.

The popular presenter, 63, has had a close-up view of the difficulties our health service faces, as he’s been filming a new series at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

And he didn’t pull any punches as he gave his opinion on the whole affair, even saying of Brexit’s unofficial spokesman Nigel Farage that he would “rip him to shreds”.

Paul, 63, has been meeting staff and patients at Great Ormond Street as part of his new ITV1 series, Paul O’Grady’s Little Heroes.

And the experience seems only to have ignited his fury at the plight of the National Health Service with Britain’s departure from the EU looming.

He told the Mirror: “With Brexit, we won’t have as many overseas members of staff – good doctors, good nurses, chiropodists, speech therapists, everything. We’re not going to have them.

“They’re paid appallingly for the hours they work. When you see how much the likes of footballers earn, it’s gross.

“It’s all about immigration and Farage and [Boris] Johnson. I cannot stand either of them. If I was in a lift with Farage, I’d rip him to shreds.”

This isn’t the first time Paul has shown his support for the NHS. Back in May, he hosted the first ever NHS Heroes Awards on ITV1.

The bash was attended by a number of A-list guests, including Prince William, Elton John and Shirley Bassey.

And before the ceremony, Paul insisted that the event hadn’t come a moment too soon.

He told the Mirror: “This is long overdue – it should’ve happened years ago and it should be a yearly thing. It’s time we honoured people who deserve it.”
